209 ESL Assistant

Summary

The ESL Specialist coordinates the LEP program for children and consults with parents who are Limited English Proficient.  The ESL Specialist supervises the LEP program and insures appropriate student scheduling and provides the needed materials for the LEP Instructional Assistants the ESL Specialist incorporates current technology and provides guidelines for the use of that technology to support English language learners at all service centers.  The ESL Specialist coordinates activities to maintain accurate LEP student records.  The ESL Specialist coordinates testing and assigns various levels of LEP students into appropriate instructional LEP levels and defines the number and length of instructional sessions for al LEP students.  The ESL Specialist consults with parents who are Limited English Proficient and communicates with parents, teachers and students with regards to any academic/behavioral problem or complaint.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Meet with LEP instructional Assistants to work on improving English Language skills for English language learners
  • Set up technology to assist the student in English language learning
  • Assist in goal setting for LEP Instructional Assistants
  • Informally evaluate students' needs
  • Assists in preparing learning activities that will move students toward their learning goals
  • Maintain accurate student records
  • Complete all DOE required reports
  • Coordinate assessment program as required by DOE
  • Consult with parents, teachers and students
  • Secure materials and supplies
  • Manage the day to day activities of the Instructional Assistants
  • Be an interpreter when needed at all levels K-12

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred
  • Experience in the area of ESL for both children and adult learners
  • Experience using technology
  • Good knowledge of spoken and written English
  • Positive interpersonal skills, enjoys interacting with people
  • Dependable yet flexible

$13.19 / per hour
